Gizmo was bought by the Hodges from Henry O’Toole, who breeds the well known and successful Castle ponies near Clifden in Ireland.

Henry campaigned Gizmo as a three year old in loose school jumping competitions; he qualified for the final of the All-Ireland Loose School jumping in which he finished second, beaten by only one mark.

We have not shown Gizmo since importing him from Ireland to stand at the Albie Stud near Lockerbie in Scotland, as he now concentrates on his stud duties, which keep him exceptionally busy. His first season was at the age of four when he covered thirty mares, both Connemaras and Thoroughbreds, and he now continues to cover approximately forty mares a season.

Before leaving Ireland, Gizmo covered three mares, the most notable of the resulting offspring was Fairyhill Gizmo who was successfully show at Clifden Show in 2007 where he came third, and at Roundstone Champion of Champions Show where he was placed second.

In England his offspring, although sparse on the ground, have done extremely well:-

Falfield Bequest bred by Mrs Aird was winner of the colt foal class and the champion foal at the Breed Show in 2006.

Drummore Castle bred by Mrs Lammie won the two year old class at the Royal Show and was reserve champion at Muirhill in Scotland, both in 2006.

Kirtle Poacher bred by The Hodges won the colt foal class in 2007 at the Breed Show.

Sydserff Golden Wytch Elm bred by Mrs Simpson won the youngstock class and also claimed the In-Hand Championship at the Border Union Show in Scotland in 2008.

Drummore Sea Breeze owned by Mrs Talbot, this year passed his colt inspection and of the 26 colts examined countrywide is one of only ten to become a class one stallion.

Gizmo is suited to all types of mares and passes on his exceptionally kind temperament. He has a completely unique personality and outlook on life and does everything enthusiastically including jumping when loose schooled. He is loved by everyone who visits the stud and works at the stud. He would surely be a good stallion to use for performance ponies and horses.

He has a high fertility level and always covers his mares’ In-Hand.
